How to remove malicious items from your computer

The registry is one of the most vital components of the Microsoft Windows operating system. It is a database containing virtually all system, software, hardware and user settings. The registry keeps record for every single program or hardware component. If anything missing in the registry your program might not work properly or even won’t start at all.

All the major dangerous and malicious items attack and modify Windows registry at the first sight. These malicious programs add various registry entries, create new keys, change default values. This is made in attempt to register a pest in the system, alter essential settings of the Windows operating system and installed software. All such changes are made to harm the operating system and the user data.

We have described below how to remove all such malicious and dangerous entries from Windows registry. However, editing the registry is a complicated task and involves many risks in it that only advanced users and professionals can accomplish safely.

An antivirus, antispyware and other computer cleaner program can remove these registry threats. However there are some other malicious items that cannot be removed by very powerful spyware removal tools. A security (Antivirus and antispyware programs) tool cannot examine each recent pest, and new pests appear almost every day. Anti-spyware tools rely on spyware definition databases. Thus few of the dangerous programs remain unrecognized in the registry or in your system.

This is why we need to go some extra miles sometime to remove malicious items from a system; however it is strongly recommended that kindly do not modify the registry if there is no real need for this.

The following steps show how to edit a registry manually.

Before you edit the registry: - It is strongly recommended to create the registry backup before modifying any registry value manually.

Click start->Select Run-> type in “regedit” (without quotes) and press enter.

Click file menu on the top left pane of the registry editor and select export option. It will ask you to save the registry backup. Save the backup somewhere in safer place in the system.

To edit the value, right-click on it and select the Modify option from the appeared menu.

You can also double-click on the value with you left mouse button or use the Edit menu. Type in the preferred value in the appeared window and click OK. This can be repeated with other registry keys as well.

Perform the same sequence of actions as just described in order to delete the value or the registry key. However, this time you will have to select the Delete option instead of Modify.

To add a new registry key or a new value, click on the Edit menu, select New and choose a type for the entry.

You can export any key or value from the registry to the defined file. Right-click on the object and select Export (on Image 7 it is in the red box).'

Enter a file name. Export registry files should have the .reg extension.

Export registry entries to a file

You can also import a certain value or a key. Click on the File menu and select Import. Then choose the file containing objects you want to import.

If after modifying the registry something goes wrong, you can restore the registry from a backup.

Warning: - Editing registry requires a great deal of professional expertise, it is advised not to modify any registry value if you are not sure about it. We recommend you to use an automatic registry booster program if you have any doubt about editing registry.

Why my Device Conflicts with Device Manager

As the name indicates a device manager is the place or utility where you can manage your devices and related activities such as to install or uninstall any device driver or to disable or enable any device which is attached with your system. A conflict of devices is a common issue in a computer, device manager is the place where we can recognize and investigate and can get them fixed. A conflict in device manager causes a slow computer problem as well.
  • To start Device Manager:
  • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  • Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
  • Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  • For Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, can type device manager in Start search and it will be highlighted, click it to open.

How to fix the conflict and other issues in the Device Manager

A device manager is a well organized and if there is a problem with a device; it is listed in the hardware tree. Also, the problem device has a symbol that indicates the type of problem:

A black exclamation mark (!) on a yellow field indicates the device has some issue with it.

A problem code shows the problem is displayed for the device.

A red "X" shows the device is disabled. The disabled device though physically attached with your system but it does not have the right set of drivers for it. The drivers can be installed from the manufacturer’s website.

Use automatic settings feature - A blue "i" on a device resource in Computer properties indicates that the Use automatic settings feature is not selected for the device and that the resource was manually selected.

A green question mark "?" This applies to Windows Me only which means that a driver for this device is installed, indicating the chance that all of the functionality may not be available.

NOTE: In a different kind of device conflict, some sound cards and video adapters do not report all of the resources that they use to Windows. This shows only one device in conflict, or no conflicts at all. This can be verified by disabling the sound card, or you may use the standard VGA video driver to solve any conflict.

The above issue is well known for S3 video adapters and 16-bit Sound Blaster sound cards, or the cards that are using Sound Blaster emulation for Sound Blaster compatibility. When you double click a specific device in Device Manager, you see a property sheet. The property sheet has a General tab.

The list box at the bottom contains a Conflicting device list. This list indicates a conflict with an error code.

Note the Use automatic settings check box. If system successfully finds a device, this check box is checked, and the device should function properly. Nevertheless, if the resource settings are based on Basic Configuration (where is any number between 0 to 9), it may be required to modify the configuration by selecting a different basic configuration. If the specific configuration you want for the device is not listed as a basic configuration, it may be probable to click the Change Setting button to manually adjust it.

For example, to edit the Input/Output Range setting:

Click the Use automatic settings check box to clear it.

Click Change Setting.

Click the appropriate I/O range for the device.

After changing the settings if the issue still continues you may need to contact manufacture of the device so that they can get it fixed. How to fix windows runtime errors

Possible factors that cause the run time errors in Windows
  • Problem with Software programs
  • Issue created by a Computer Virus
  • Problem created by computer Memory
  • Confliction with TSR or other running program

Possible solutions

Before following the below recommendations for troubleshooting your runtime error if you're getting a runtime error with a runtime error code and error message such as "Runtime error 75 path/file access error", skip to the below runtime error listing for a listing of runtime error codes and additional information and causes for these errors.

Problem with Software programs

Many times your software program may create Windows run time error message in your system. Damaged or corrupted software creates the run time error message. An old program may also produce the same error message in your machine. We recommend to go to the manufactures or developer’s site and search for the latest patches for your software.

If no patches or updates are available, uninstall and reinstall the program that is causing the issue. If you still face the issue reinstall your operating system.

Some Add-on, plug-in, or other extra software and utility can cause the issue

Nowadays there are various other add on programs apart from the main application. The add on programs or utilities can also create Windows run time error issue. Uninstall or disable these all the add on in your computer and browser just to make sure if they are causing the issue. I also recommend use a windows registry cleaner program to clean your computer.

Issue created by a Computer Virus

Computer viruses are very well known threat for all the computer users today. In absence of an antivirus program a computer may get infected any point of time. However it is necessary essential to keep your antivirus and all other security programs such as antimalware and other computer cleaner programs up to date. If you are not using an updated security or computer cleaner program it may cause the run time issue in your system.

Confliction with TSR or other running program

Apart from computer virus and other software you may also experience Windows runtime error due to TSR (Terminate and stay resident) and other running programs. Open your task manager and end the running application one by one and observe if the issue disappears or not?

Problem created by computer Memory

Finally, if you have followed all of the above recommendations, and still you encounter the same error message, it is possible that you may be encountering hardware / memory related issue. However before replacing or repairing any hardware component verify with the developer of the programs in your PC about the issue.

If this does not provide any solutions, it is hardware or memory related issue. We recommend you contact the computer or motherboard manufacturer for additional recommendations or service.
